Sodium Chloride

A&C’s Sodium Chloride is a very high purity grade material manufactured to the USP and Multicompendial grade. A low-endotoxin pharmaceutical grade Sodium Chloride is also available at A&C.

Sodium Chloride is commonly known as salt with the chemical formula NaCl, it has a 1:1 ratio of sodium and chloride ions. Sodium Chloride salt has been used by humans for millennia and now annually in all application on the 250-megaton scale.

It’s true that Sodium Chloride, with the CAS number 7647-14-5, is chemically identical to table salt and is commonly used as a food additive. A&C’s Sodium Chloride, however is very high purity, meeting more than 49 requirements for the major pharmaceutical monographs (USP, EP, BP and JP). The material is isolated from natural salt deposits and GMP refined by a specially modified crystallization process to extremely high purity that minimizes all other natural elemental impurities.

Sodium Chloride salt is critically important because Sodium and Chloride ions are essential for the normal functioning of our bodies, with sodium being the major cation of extracellular fluid as a mediator for water distribution, fluid balance and proper osmotic pressure. It’s no surprise then that this important salt has wide use in medical applications, in parenteral and non-parenteral medicinal dosage forms, in nasal sprays, eye drops, and in vaccines.
